I made something completely normal. For me.

Success is never getting to the bottom of your to-do list. Marissa Mayer

Right now I feel like the worst blogger, I am totally incapable of following a schedule, so I have never made one. When I do even make a to do list, nothing on that list gets done by the end of the day because of so many shiny objects that fall into my path. Sometimes that's fun, sometimes frustrating.

I have had this 'normal' project on my so called to-do list for YEARS. MANY YEARS.  I got the shell at Eileen Godfrey's shop long ago when that shop existed and when Eileen was here on earth. God, I miss her.

She got the shell from the UK and I do not remember the maker. She used to travel to the UK shows to buy wonderful things for her shop. She had the best stuff. This was back in the 80's when one pound sterling was worth about 50 cents US.  So, yep, long ago.

Anyway, this was the first incarnation of that shop:

Those tiles were hand painted onto a plastic bathroom tile sheet.  You see them on fancy bakeries. I loved that idea. So spent hours doing up the shop then changed my mind.  The whole thing went forest green next. No photos because I changed my mind. Again.

Fast forward years. Maybe 5 or more. I probably could have sold it just for the space it was taking up and the energy I spent moving it from place to place.  But no, I believe in perseverance.  Which is the courage to ignore the obvious wisdom of turning back.   Changed the color again and decided to stick with it.  For now.

It became this:

I even managed to wire it and got the chandelier to work. Which amazes me every time I turn it on.  EVERY time.

And, I had been collecting breads and cakes and pastries for those many years because I was making this bakery regardless of whether the project was moving forward. Or moving at all.

The counter is awaiting cookie trays from Paris Miniatures.  And I think I would like some happy chubby ladies to sit at the table because cake can only be appreciated by that type of pastry connoisseur.
(I personally recommend Le Pain Quotidien on 97th St, NYC, or any Lauduree.)

The cakes and pastries and pies are by The English Kitchen and The Kitchen Captive and the now retired from minis, Betsy Niederer. Some cakes by Wee Little West.

Now I am actually considering that I might have made it a witch's Bakery. So much darker and not so 'happy'.  Even though I referenced Marie Antoinette.  Who came to a dark end.
